Until today, unexploded ordnances from the second world war remain a risk for the population and the development of the North West Coast.
Since December 2014, the EU has helped Egypt to eradicate this risk with a financial support of EUR 4.7 million.
The EU is pleased to have contributed to the clearance of more than 1,000 km2 of land. Mine victims have also been supported physically (artificial limbs centre) and economically (income-generating activities).
The EU has also contributed to raising the population awareness of the potential danger of land mines.
The EU is proud to be a part of to this endeavour and to contribute to improving the lives of the inhabitants of this area.
